Featured Illustration: The Chrysler Building

When I started this series on locations from New Haven and New York I knew it was important to paint iconic landmarks. The Chrysler Building is one of those for me. Whenever I go into the city I walk past it after leaving Grand Central. It happens to be my favorite building in the entire city. This painting was actually done from a night photo. I wanted to use minimal details to really form shapes. I stayed loose and painted the entire thing with my Nomad Brush. The other paintings in this series have forced me to use perspective guidelines. The simplicity of this one was very rewarding.
